在本週初所舉行的發表會中，Apple 終於正式發表了最新款的 9.7 吋 iPad Pro。雖然從表面上來看它就好像是 12.9 吋 iPad Pro 的縮水版本，不過除尺寸外其實兩者也有不同之處，比如其中一項新功能在發表會上就沒有公佈，那就是該款新 iPad 將會配備內嵌式的 Apple SIM。
其實 Apple SIM 早於 2014 年就正式登陸 iPad Air 2 及 iPad mini 3，而其後亦都在 iPad mini 4 及 12.9 吋 iPad Pro 上出現。而這種虛擬 SIM 卡的最大好處是可以將不同電訊營運商的資料預先登陸在機內，而之後即使不更換 SIM 卡，亦可以切換至不同營運商的網絡，這點對於經常穿梭不同國家或地區的人來說無疑是十分方便。
留意即將推出的 LTE 版本 9.7 吋 iPad Pro 亦將會具備 Apple SIM 這種功能，不過有別於之前幾款 iPad 只「兼容」Apple SIM，從 Apple 官網中就會發現 9.7 吋 iPad Pro 反而會採用「內嵌式」Apple SIM，換言之該款平板在出廠之時，機內就應該已儲存起各地電訊營運商的資料。此外，雖然香港用家未能透過 Apple SIM 隨意切換本地網絡，但留意只需透過 GigSky，即可購買全球超過 90 個國家的流動數據計劃，不同地方在價格、數據流量及使用日數上均會有所不同，而中國則暫時不支援 Apple SIM。
